Congresses and Events
A bridge congress is a gathering of bridge players who come together to participate in competitive bridge tournaments. These events provide an opportunity for players to test their skills, compete against others, and earn masterpoints (a scoring system used in bridge) based on their performance.
Here are some notable bridge congresses in Australia:
-
Gold Coast Congress: The 62nd Gold Coast Congress was held from 18 to 24 February 2024. It’s organised by the Queensland Bridge Association and attracts bridge enthusiasts from around the world. Participants engage in pairs and teams' events, striving to earn masterpoints. You can find more information for the 2025 event on their official website.
-
Barrier Reef Congress: This event is a Gold Point Event held in May. It rotates between four major centers in the north of Australia: Mackay, Townsville, Cairns, and Yeppoon. The congress includes both Open and Restricted pairs and teams competitions. It’s a chance for players to escape the winter chills of the south and enjoy some competitive bridge in a beautiful setting .
So, if you’re passionate about bridge, these congresses are excellent opportunities to connect with fellow players, challenge yourself, and enjoy the game!
At Kenmore Bridge Club we hold two major congresses each year which are open to any player who has an ABF number. The first is our Pairs and Teams congress which are held on separate days the last weekend of January. Both are open however are graded which means that there is a section for rookies (under 50 masterpoint's), novices (under 100 masterpoints) and of course open. This event is held just before the Gold Coast Congress and normally attracts a field of more than 40 tables, so is very competitive.

The other major congress during the year is the Kenmore Bridge Club Rookies and Novice Pairs. This is also a graded competition which runs in September each year, however, is restricted to players with less than 100 masterpoints.

Events are an important part of our club calendar and apart from our congresses we also hold our club Championships throughout the year which are restricted to club and affiliated members only. Click the link below to see a full list of events, this can also be printed.`
